In February 2004, Moderna Museet triumphantly reopened its museum building after years of renovation caused by problems with mould and damp. The renovation was used as an opportunity to improve the spatial environments of the museum, making it easier for visitors to find their way around, and achieve more efficient utilization of the upper entrance space. The museum’s graphic profile was updated to coincide with the reopening.
Stockholm Design Lab, together with Henrik Nygren and Greger Ulf Nilson, created a comprehensive identity program for Moderna Museet. It included a new graphic identity and a design program for publications, merchandising and packaging. Two main requirements were applied when creating the new identity: to meet high standards of originality and aesthetics, and that all identity components should reflect the key values of Moderna Museet- excellence and access.
